Microscopic Diagnosis of Entamoeba histolytica
Bench Aids for the Diagnosis of Intestinal Parasites
published in 1994 by the WHO (ISBN - 92 4 1544767) is a good all around
manual for the identification of all intestinal parasites. It includes
methods for preserving and staining fresh, PVA and SAF fixed stool samples
as well as excellent photographs of stained specimens. However, it must
be remembered that E. histolytica and E. dispar cannot be
distinguished morphologically. The description
provided applies to both of them, except for red blood cell ingestion and
tissue invasion.
